Students at Presidency High School planted 30 trees as part of the state’s Haritha Haram programme, and are doing their bit to go green this 2016!
Haritha Haram is a flagship programme of the Telangana Government who aim to increase the present 24% tree cover in the State to 33%.
Students at Presidency learn about the importance of saving the planet and how small changes in our lives can benefit our community. In Telangana, the forest area is 25.16% of the total geographical area, but with help from schools such as Presidency and other community groups the target of increasing the green cover of the state to the desired level of 33% is a real possibility.
Students will continue to look after the trees which they planted and will monitor their progress. One student said, “It was great to think we were helping the planet”, “it was really important to be able to plant 30 trees, we feel really happy that we could help”.
