For Primary School, instead of doing an Annual day where only 10% of the students participate and its mostly around Bollywood music, we switched to doing ‘Parent Fun Evenings’.
In this event, we have smaller groups of students participate, but we have 100% participation – Typically we do one event for Class 1 and Class 2, separate for Class 3 and Class 4 and 5 do an event together. The theme of the event is based on the unit that students study in the class. Class 1 and Class 2 – do Food & Nutrition in one year and then People & Relationships the following year and then it repeats. The students study the theme for 4 weeks and at the end of the 4 weeks, we do a show based on that theme.
Parents also participate in this show. They meet up at school to practice for the event and they typically do a skit which has a message to all the parents.
Class 3 does an event around Holidays and focuses on families spending time together. We also do a Virtual Holiday session using Google Maps.
Class 4 and Class 5 do an International Night/Countries Night – Each section reads about a particular country for 4 weeks and then they sing a song in the national language of the country, a dance and conduct a quiz for the parents.
