Presidency High School’s science depart scooped the honours at the 2016 Agastya Jignyasa Science Festival.
Out of 468 projects entered into the 2016 competition, Presidency finished first in Group 1 and first in Group 2. There was also a 2nd place and 3 projects that received consolation prizes of R1000 for their efforts.
Rithika and Vrindha Mahati claimed the first prize in Group 2 for their Eco friendly paper, made from cotton pulp prepared by grinding cotton rags. “When we got first prize we felt very happy” said the girls, “The eco paper can be used for decoration purposes, greetings cards, it’s all handmade and Eco friendly”.
Nachiketh received his first prize in Group 1 for a device called the Electrostatic Precipitator which collects particles from polluted gases produced by industries and automobiles. Nachiketh said that, “It is made by plastic jars, straws, aluminium foil and metal mesh” he finished by saying “I was surprised when I got first prize and I was very excited”.
Other entries included a Match Box Microphone, Speed Breaker, Electrician Device and a Gold Mobile.
