Students at Presidency High School were given a look into the past thanks to an amazing collection of old objects brought in by class 5 children. Coins, swords, old technology, jewellery and ornaments were displayed for students to handle and explore.
Class 5 teacher Zaima organised the event and it was an outstanding success. It was a unique chance for students to get their hands on real history. Children are used to conducting social studies with their heads buried in books, but an event like this brings the pages to life and the student’s amazement was there for all to see.
Students all had their favourite objects, some seeing these things for the first time in their lives. ‘‘We were told to bring old things to make a museum in the school’ Bharadwi said. ‘I like the olden day coins from the 1800’s. But I also like the radio and cassette player. I like them because they are very precious and you can’t find them anywhere today’.
Bharadwi’s classmate Rohit said, `I like the silver perfume stand. It still has a good smell and it looks very pretty. We can see lots of things from the times of our elders’. Vishal liked the weapons on show. “Of all the things from the time of our grandparents and elders I like the swords best. They remind me of ancient kings and castles. They were used in battle or special ceremonies”
Presidency would like to thank all those parents and grandparents who searched through their belongings to provide these amazing artefacts for the Presidency Museum.
