Imagine visiting a beautiful village awarded as ‘The Best Village’. On 5 February 2020, students of class 9th went on a field trip to ANKAPUR village in Armoor Amanda. K. K. Bhajanna Sir, Secretary of the village, welcomed us with a lot of joy and happiness. In Ankapur, the farmers cultivate turmeric, corn, pulses, jowar, tomato and many other crops. They use vermicompost and other organic methods. They also use chemical fertilizers and pesticides, but in a less amount (quantity). “Women play a major role in agriculture,” said K. K. Bhajanna who has worked as Secretary for 30 years.
They learnt many things about the processing of turmeric. They have seen the processing unit where all the processes take place.
The village is very popular for red jowar in other neighbouring countries. It is even exported to Bangladesh and Pakistan. In 2014, 18 countries tourists have visited Ankapur to know about the agricultural processes. Till date, no police case is filed or registered in Ankapur. They say it is just because of the unity of the villagers. “It was an amazing field trip. We have learnt many things about agriculture and developments in agriculture. Even I have learnt about the challenges faced by the farmers. I really loved it,” exclaimed Sanjana of 9th Seagulls.
“This field trip was very helpful to all the students. They have learnt a lot of things playfully. I hope this information would help them a lot in future,” said Ravi Kiran sir. This field trip was a wonderful and amazing experience for all the students. It was really enjoyable with a lot of greenery around. Students got a first-hand experience of different agricultural practices. We hope to have many such education trips in future.
